There have been massive fires across the west coast of America. The fires have mainly been in the states of California, Oregon and Washington. These types of fires are common every year during the summer but this year they have been the biggest ever. The fires seem to be getting worse every year. The Governor of California said the fires are because of climate change. He said there is a climate emergency and that the record temperatures each year are to blame.

The fires have destroyed many homes and killed people. Large areas of the western US have been left destroyed by the fires. Firefighters have been struggling to control the fires because of the massive size and the amount of them. The fires are so big that the sky has turned orange in large parts of California. Smoke has even reached New York and other areas of the east coast which are almost 3000 miles (4828km) away from the fires. The smoke from the fires has caused Portland and San Francisco to have the worst air quality in the world.

The Governor of California said there is no debate about climate change. He said that what is happening in California is proof of climate change. He said these fires and the high temperatures are what scientists predicted in the past. In the past, scientists said that there would be more extreme weather and extreme temperatures but they thought it would be further in the future. However, it is happening now because of the speed of global warming.
