There is a theme park in Japan called Fuji-Q Highland. It is a theme park near Tokyo known for having 6 big rollercoasters. The theme park had to close because of the coronavirus pandemic. Like many places in Japan, it has now opened again. Since it reopened, there have been new rules to try and keep guests of the park safe. There are normal rules that many places have like wearing a mask and staying socially distant. However, there is also one strange new rule, rollercoaster riders are being asked to be quiet on the rides.

The riders are being asked to remain quiet because people on rollercoasters often shout and scream. Many people see it as part of the fun of riding a rollercoaster, some people are actually scared as well. To stop the spread of the virus, they don’t want people to shout and scream because it could help the virus move around. Talking, shouting and screaming are all things that can help the virus spread. To make the new rules more fun, the theme park has created a new challenge. The challenge is for riders to act as serious as they can when having their photo taken on the ride. Guests who look very serious on the ride photos can win free passes to the theme park.

The unique rules have impressed people around the world. Although the theme park has said that they will not punish people who do not follow the rules, they are hoping that people will listen. This is not very different from other methods of controlling Covid-19 in Japan. Many of the rules in Japan have been optional but people have followed them anyway. The theme park expects that people will behave in the same way when attending the park.
