France has fined Apple. The fine is for making iPhones slow. Apple made iPhones slower as they got older. Some people say this was to make people buy new phones. Apple says it was to keep the phones working. Apple says that the batteries got worse so the phones had to be slowed down. If they didn’t slow the phones, the phones might randomly turn off.

Not everyone believes Apple’s reason. France has now fined Apple €25 million ($27m). They fined Apple for not telling people about slowing their phones. They didn’t say that Apple slowed the phones for a bad reason. Apple apologised for not telling people about slowing their phones. They changed the price for battery replacements to $29 for one year. 11 million people got a cheaper battery.

Apple has also changed the way they design phones. They have designed them to keep the battery working for longer. All iPhones now show the health of the battery too. People can easily see if their battery needs replacing. They can also decide how they want to manage the battery if it is bad. It will save many people from buying new phones if they don’t want to.
