Switzerland has made a new banknote. It is one of the world’s biggest banknotes. This new note is worth 1,000 francs ($1,007, £764).

Most countries in the world are using less cash. Many countries have also stopped making large banknotes. Switzerland is different. Cash is the most popular way to pay in Switzerland. Many Swiss banks will let you take up to 5,000 francs per day from an ATM. It would also not be strange to buy something for more than 10,000 francs with cash in Switzerland.

Many Swiss people feel that cash is easier to use. They feel safe with cash in their pocket instead of a card. They also feel it is easier to keep track of their money. A Swiss woman said she spends more money if she uses a card.

Other countries say that large notes make things easy for criminals. Large notes make it easy for them to move a lot of money. It is also easier for them to hide money. Most of Europe has stopped making 500 euro notes because of this.

Many Swiss people believe cash gives them privacy and control. For cash to become less popular, other ways to pay need to have these things.
