A young football team and their coach got trapped in a cave. The cave was in Thailand. There were 12 boys and a coach. The boys were ages 12-17 and the coach was 25 years old. The group was celebrating their teammate’s birthday. They decided to go on a hike for the special day. They had gone to the cave many times before. However, this time something went wrong.

Heavy rain caused the entrance of the cave to flood. The entrance became blocked by water. The boys and the coach had to find a safe place. They found a small ledge just beside the water. The group thought they would only be inside for 1 hour. They had no food. They only had the water from the cave walls to drink.

After 9 days, 2 British divers finally found the boys. The divers told the group they would come back with help. One of the boys could speak English. He translated what the divers said. He also asked for the divers to bring food. The divers promised they would. After missing for 9 days, the families were so happy to know the boys were okay.

It was a very difficult situation. People from all over the world came to help. The path to the boys was very dangerous. People didn’t know how to get the boys out. It was even dangerous for experienced divers. One diver died after he took oxygen to the boys. He ran out of oxygen on his way back. He was very brave.

The boys needed to be rescued before more rain came. Finally a plan was made. It took 3 days to get the whole group out. The last day was the day before a big rain storm.

Finally, the boys were rescued. They were in the cave for 17 days total. People all over the world celebrated.
