This week, republicans in the U.S. have been rushing to create a bill that will solve a border issue. The issue was between the U.S. – Mexico border. Many migrant families have been separated. Children were taken away from their parents and this has made many people angry. The Republican led congress has been under a lot of pressure to change the policy. President Donald Trump has told a group of House Republicans that he would support any bill they passed to fix this.

The president still says it is important to stop illegal border crossings. He said, “When you prosecute the parents for coming in illegally – which should happen – you have to take the children away.” Children are being taken when their parents go to jail.

Officials in the U.S. have said that 2,342 children were taken from 2,206 parents between May 5th and May 9th 2018. This occurred after the Attorney General Jeff Sessions created a “zero-tolerance” policy on illegal immigration.

One of the people to speak about this was the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May. She said, “The pictures of children being held in what appear to be cages are deeply disturbing. This is wrong.”

On June 20th, President Donald Trump signed an order that means families cannot be separated. Thousands of people are happy that these families can be reunited soon. However, many people think Trump has been keeping the children so he could get money for his border wall. If he doesn’t get the money, then there is nothing to stop this from happening again.
