North Korea said they will close their nuclear test site in May. North Korea has been testing nuclear weapons for a long time and it has caused a lot of tension with other countries. Scientists believe that the test site may have been destroyed in 2017, so officially closing it might not be a big loss for North Korea.

Journalists have been invited to watch the site be closed. This is unusual because foreign journalists are normally not allowed in North Korea. Nuclear scientists from South Korea and the US were also originally invited but it isn’t certain if they will also be there to watch. North Korea invited the scientists and journalists to show that they are serious about destroying the site.

Experts think North Korea is closing the site because Kim Jong Un will maybe meet with Donald Trump in June. Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump’s first ever meeting was arranged to be in Singapore but North Korea has been saying that they might not go. If the meeting happens then it will be the first time that a sitting US president has met with a North Korean leader. The meeting is to try and achieve peace between North Korea and the rest of the world.

It is unclear exactly what North Korea wants but the US is hoping that North Korea will destroy all of their nuclear weapons. This is why North Korea has been angry at the US, because they do not want to destroy all of their weapons.

North Korea has not been very trustworthy in the past so experts are unsure if the meeting will work.
