The next U.S. census will take place in 2020. A new question has been added to it that has caused some controversy. The new question asks people whether or not they are U.S. citizens. This is the first time this question has been included in the census since 1950.

The census is done every ten years. It helps the government decide how to spend money and how to divide areas for voting. It is important that as many people as possible answer the questions in order for the government to learn about who lives in the country.

California and New York are states with a large amount of immigrants. Both of them are protecting these immigrants by trying to block the question. They believe this question will scare immigrants from participating in the census. They have also said that it will make the data incorrect because not everyone will answer the questions.

President Donald Trump’s team has said this question will help the government make decisions about how to spend resources. They also said it will help them make laws that stop discrimination.

Some people have said this question makes Donald Trump’s team look like they are against immigrants.

The agency working on the questions has until the end of March to turn in the final list of questions for the 2020 census.
