An awards ceremony called the Golden Globes took place in January 2018. This ceremony gives awards to the best in film and television. At the ceremony, a woman gave a speech after winning their highest award. Her name is Oprah Winfrey. Her speech was jaw-dropping for some people and now many of them think she will run for president in 2020.

Oprah does not have any political experience and has never held a government position. She had her own talk show for 25 years, has a TV network, a magazine and has acted in films. Oprah has also done a lot of charity work. She has helped many young girls and women who are in poverty. She has even opened her own school for girls in Africa who had difficulty getting an education. In her speech she said, “I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon.” Women’s rights is a very important issue to her.

The current president is Donald Trump. He did not have any political experience before becoming president either. He was a businessman who owned a lot of real estate and had his own TV show. With those similarities, people think it is not such a strange idea that Oprah could run for president too. If she won, she would not only be the first woman president but also the first African-American woman president.

Both come from very different backgrounds. Donald Trump’s father was a millionaire who gave him a lot of money to start his own business. Oprah’s family was very poor when she was a child. Now both of them are billionaires.

Oprah has not commented on whether or not she will run for president, there has only been speculation. Some people believe it would be a great idea and some people think she needs more experience in politics. There are also people who say a celebrity should not be president. Only time will tell what happens in the 2020 election.
